Lady Mustang swimmers finish third in the state

The Lakewood Ranch High girls swim team set eight new school records on its way to a third-place finish at the Class 2A FHSAA Swimming and Diving Finals Nov. 12 in Orlando.

Ashley Reid and Danielle Valley led the way for the Lady Mustangs, as both swimmers achieved All-American consideration for their second-place times in the 200 individual medley (2:05.49) and the 500 freestyle (4:48.55), respectively.

Will Kazokas led the way for the Lakewood boys team, which finished ninth, with four new school records.

Those setting new school records include:

Girls 200 medley relay — Reid, Valley, Rebekah Baker and Shannon Mccarthy (4^th in 1:51.63)

Boys 200 medley relay — Kazokas, James Cascone, Phil Czupryna and Ryan Stasiowski (7^th in 1:43.17)

Girls 200 freestyle — Valley (3^rd in 1:50.34)

Boys 200 freestyle — Kazokas (6^th in 1:43.47)

Girls 200 IM — Reid (2^nd in 2:05.49)

Girls 50 freestyle — McCarthy (7^th in 24.56)

Girls 500 freestyle — Valley (2^nd in 4:48.55)

Girls 200 freestyle relay — McCarthy, Emily Wray, Raegan Sauer and Baker (4^th in 1:41.70)

Girls 100 backstroke — Reid (5^th in 58.56)

Boys 100 backstroke — Kazokas (2^nd in 51.90)

Girls 400 freestyle relay — McCarthy, Baker, Valley and Reid (3^rd in 3:37.18)

Boys 400 freestyle relay — Kazokas, Stasiowski, Kevin Berkenbusch and Cascone (9^th in 3:23.19)

McCarthy also set a new school record in the 100 freestyle (53.56) as the leadoff leg of the Girls 400 freestyle relay.
