Lady Mustang swimmers finish third in the state

The Lakewood Ranch High girls swim team set eight new school records on its way to a third-place finish at the Class 2A FHSAA Swimming and Diving Finals Nov. 12 in Orlando.

Ashley Reid and Danielle Valley led the way for the Lady Mustangs, as both swimmers achieved All-American consideration for their second-place times in the 200 individual medley (2:05.49) and the 500 freestyle (4:48.55), respectively.

Will Kazokas led the way for the Lakewood boys team, which finished ninth, with four new school records.

Those setting new school records include:

Girls 200 medley relay — Reid, Valley, Rebekah Baker and Shannon Mccarthy (4th in 1:51.63)

Boys 200 medley relay — Kazokas, James Cascone, Phil Czupryna and Ryan Stasiowski (7th in 1:43.17)

Girls 200 freestyle — Valley (3rd in 1:50.34)

Boys 200 freestyle — Kazokas (6th in 1:43.47)

Girls 200 IM — Reid (2nd in 2:05.49)

Girls 50 freestyle — McCarthy (7th in 24.56)

Girls 500 freestyle — Valley (2nd in 4:48.55)

Girls 200 freestyle relay — McCarthy, Emily Wray, Raegan Sauer and Baker (4th in 1:41.70)

Girls 100 backstroke — Reid (5th in 58.56)

Boys 100 backstroke — Kazokas (2nd in 51.90)

Girls 400 freestyle relay — McCarthy, Baker, Valley and Reid (3rd in 3:37.18)

Boys 400 freestyle relay — Kazokas, Stasiowski, Kevin Berkenbusch and Cascone (9th in 3:23.19)

McCarthy also set a new school record in the 100 freestyle (53.56) as the leadoff leg of the Girls 400 freestyle relay.
