Cops Corner 10.07.10

The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

HAGLE PARK
Sept. 28
 10:14 p.m. — 900 Hagle Park Road. Burglary to an unoccupied dwelling. The victim reported sometime between 7 a.m. and 8:59 p.m., unknown person(s) entered his bedroom through the window and took several items totaling $1,330 in value.

LAKEWOOD RANCH
Sept. 21
 9 a.m. — The intersection of State Road 70 East and Lakewood Ranch Boulevard. Found property. While conducting a traffic stop at the listed location, the deputy stopped the vehicle in the eastbound right-turn lane. When the deputy got out of his vehicle, a Florida motorcycle tag was in the roadway. The deputy placed the tag in his vehicle and attempted to contact the owner.

Sept. 24
 2:56 p.m. — 5500 block of Lorraine Road. Identity theft. The complainant filed an identity theft report in Ohio. Investigation in Ohio revealed the victim’s name and Social Security number were being used by an employee at the business on Lorraine Road.

MYAKKA
Sept. 27
 8 a.m. — 4700 block of 257th Street East. Burglary. The victim reported a burglary to his residence and stated he believed his son stole a 37-inch Vizio television from the enclosed lanai of the residence. A pawn search revealed the son had pawned the property at Cash America Pawn in Palmetto. He had filled out the pawn ticket attesting that the television was his and placed his fingerprint on the ticket. The father positively identified the television as the one he’d had stolen. He completed a sworn affidavit attesting his son did not have permission to take and sell the television. The fingerprint from the pawn ticket positively identified his son as the seller of the television and the son was arrested at his home in Palmetto without incident. He admitted to all of the charges but denied involvement in any other burglaries.

ROSEDALE
Sept. 27
 2:42 p.m. — 5200 block of 88th Street East. Scheme to defraud. The victim reported someone claiming to be her nephew called and asked for money to be wire transferred. The victim went to Publix and transferred the money via Western Union only to find out it was a scam and the person was not her nephew.

SABAL HARBOUR
Sept. 27
 Unknown time — 4800 block of Sabal Harbour Drive. Burglary to an unoccupied dwelling. Persons(s) entered the residence by cutting open the rear screen door and then lifting a glass slider off of its track. Items were taken from the bedrooms.

OTHER
Sept. 27
10:55 a.m. — 8100 block of 25th Court East (Pods/Portable Storage). Criminal mischief. The east rear section of the corrugated metal building had a tall section of metal torn away from it. There were several rips and tears many feet up. This damage opened up access to the building. The entire interior was checked and nothing appeared to be disturbed. The damage may have been caused by a large vehicle, possibly a truck/trailer combo. A vertical water pipe within the wall was pulled away from its steel girder bracket, causing possible disruption of water flow.

11:40 a.m. — 8200 block of Tourist Center Drive. Criminal mischief. The complainant said he found two heavy-duty spotlights knocked over and broken. The spotlights are located on the south side of the Mattress Firm building.

Sept. 28
 6:30 p.m. — 8300 block of Lockwood Ridge Road (Cici’s Pizza). Petit theft. The suspect came in and paid for a friend to eat but said he did not want to. He then took food off the friend’s plate and ate. A staff member told him there was no sharing and he had to pay, but the suspect refused. He left on an orange bike prior to the deputy’s arrival. The friend was still there eating, and she told the deputy the male had gone to Walmart but was coming back. The deputy stayed for about 15 minutes but left after the suspect did not return.
