Sept. 20
Pool boy
10:39 a.m. — 7000 block of Poinsetta Avenue
. Suspicious Person. A man told police he saw a man of medium build enter his pool cage and then disappear.

Gone fishing
6:25 p.m. — 500 block of Sutton Place
. Suspicious Person. A woman reported someone trespassing on the beach directly across from a condominium. The man, who was fishing, confirmed for police he was staying with his father, who lives at the condo.

Sept. 21
Road recovery
2:57 p.m. — 5000 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD)
. Found Property. Someone turned in a license plate that was found on the road. The loose plate had fallen off of a moving trailer. It was returned to its owner.

Reeled in
6:25 p.m. — 900 block of Spanish Drive South
. Boat Larceny. Two men reported that someone stole $640 worth of rods and reels from a boat stored at a local marina.

Sept. 22
Detection service
10:51 a.m. — 700 block of Longboat Court.
Public Service. Police pulled a dead battery out of a smoke detector in a condominium laundry room to stop the beeping noise until it could be replaced.

Ride it out
4:25 p.m. — Intersection of GMD and Bay Isles Road. Disturbance. A trolley passenger told police a Longboat Key trolley driver was falling asleep at the wheel. Police interviewed the driver, who seemed alert and responsive. After another passenger told police the man was being argumentative and yelling while on the trolley, he refused to continue riding the trolley and left the scene.

Inspection detection
7:01 p.m. — 500 block of Cutter Lane
. Suspicious Circumstance. Police asked a man driving a white pickup truck why he kept slowing down and pulling into driveways. He told police he was a home inspector and was taking pictures of houses.

Cleanup crew
7:48 p.m. — 300 block of North Shore Road
. Suspicious Circumstance. Two workers told police they were not working past 5 p.m. and were only cleaning up a kitchen remodeling job they had completed for a condominium owner.

Night watch
11:08 p.m. — 3100 block of GMD
. Code Enforcement. Police told three men they couldn’t be on the beach after 11 p.m. and were not allowed to bring alcohol on the beach.

Sept. 23
Sandwich solace
11:12 a.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway
. Suspicious Person. A man was reported loitering near a drug store. But police determined the man, who was eating a sandwich, could finish his meal.

Shoplifter given reprieve
12:36 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Road
. Trespassing. A liquor store owner declined to prosecute after police caught a man who was shoplifting small bottles of alcohol from her store. He was given a ride to Bradenton Beach and issued a trespass warning.

Delivery confirmation needed
12:40 p.m. — 500 block of Harbourside Drive
. Civil Disturbance. An irate Office Depot driver insisted on either being allowed to drive into Harbourside to deliver a package or leave the package for the resident at the gate. The driver left after being told it’s Harbourside’s policy not to allow packages to be left at the gate when residents are not home.

Signs go unseen
2:58 p.m. — 7000 block of Bayside Drive
. Suspicious Circumstance. A homeowner told police someone pushed the wooden gate open to his private dock, which has no-trespassing signs on it. Police promised to provide extra patrol in the area.

Sept. 24
Trailer theft
12:04 p.m. — 400 block of GMD
. Vehicle Larceny. A lawn-service worker reported that someone stole a backpack blower and chainsaw from a lawn trailer.

Purse problems
4:39 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway
. Lost Property. A woman reported that she misplaced her black square purse at the grocery store. The purse contained $140 in cash, her checkbook, credit cards and Social Security card.

Sept. 25
Metal mystery
11:58 a.m. — 5000 block of GMD
. Public Service. A man found a metal and tarp-like structure buried in the sand five feet into the Gulf of Mexico. A buoy was placed in the area to mark the object, and the Public Works Department made arrangements to remove it.

Drinking rules
1:14 p.m. — Greer Can Island
. Code Enforcement. Within a 15-minute time span, four people were warned they couldn’t drink beer on Beer Can Island.

Self-starter
2:05 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Vehicle Fire. A man reported that the carburetor of his 1962 Austin Healey caught on fire while he was trying to start the car. He was able to extinguish the fire himself.

Promise is a promise
2:50 p.m. – 700 block of Gulf Bay Road
. Animal Nuisance. Neighbors reported that tenants in a nearby home had small dogs that barked constantly. Police discussed the issue with the tenants, who promised it wouldn’t happen again.

Swim fans
5:06 p.m. — 7100 block of Joy Street
. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman told police that four men were swimming in a condominium swimming pool and refused to leave. They were gone upon police’s arrival.

Sept. 27
Sunken sighting
9:29 a.m. — Off the Key
. Boat Violation. The Sarasota Police Department dive team righted a sunken boat, and arrangements were made to remove and destroy it.
