Sept. 28
Getting benched
9:35 a.m. — 600 block of Bay Isles Parkway.
Property Damage. Someone struck a green alloy bench valued at $800 on Harbourside Drive.

Repeat offender
1:50 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway.
Code Enforcement. A man who stole liquor from a liquor store the week before was issued a trespass warning for camping near the shopping center and soliciting money from people.

Wave of emotion
3:29 p.m. — Intersection of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD) and North Shore Road
. Trespassing. Police issued a man a warning for parking his car at the closed North Shore Road beach access and walking around the fence to check out the waves on the closed beach.

Scenic route
5:27 p.m. — 5300 block of GMD
. Reckless Driving. An elderly woman apologized to police for driving too slowly and weaving on Gulf of Mexico Drive. She said she had not been on the Key in a while and was sightseeing.

Mr. Fix-It
7:58 p.m. — Intersection of GMD and North Shore Road
. Found Property. Police found a gray pipe wrench lying in the grass next to a fire hydrant.

Sept. 29
New driver
1:40 a.m. — 3600 block of GMD
. Suspicious Circumstance. A man called to report that someone driving a motorcycle who doesn’t live at the condominium pulled into one of the condo’s parking spaces. The novice motorcyclist, who pulled over to put on a pair of gloves, was issued citations for driving without proper medical coverage and a motorcycle endorsement.

Disappearing act
11:55 a.m. — 600 block of Longview Drive
. Suspicious Person. Neighbors reported seeing a young female wearing a short skirt and dark shirt walking along Longview Drive toward Gulf of Mexico Drive. The young woman, whom neighbors described as suspicious looking, could not be found.

Just looking
2:17 p.m. — 500 block of Bowsprit Lane
. Code Enforcement. A paint plume was reported in a canal behind a neighbor’s house. A painter admitted to knocking less than a half-gallon of latex paint into the canal by mistake while he was looking at some fish in the water. The matter was deemed an accident, and the plume soon dissipated.

Sept. 30
Strange origins
10:23 a.m. — 3700 block of GMD
. Suspicious Circumstance. A mobile-home park manager received a suspicious looking fax that had a foreign country fax number on it. Police advised the manager to discard the fax, which asked for the receiver to respond to it.

Help is on the way
10:50 a.m. — 4900 block of GMD
. Rescue. Police pulled over a driver who was driving erratically and discovered he was trying to help his co-worker, who was injured while using a grinder on a construction site. An ambulance was called to take the worker to the hospital.

Oct. 2
Sleeping beauty
3:41 p.m. — 400 block of GMD
. Suspicious Person. A gas station clerk told police he wanted a man who had been sleeping on the property’s picnic bench removed from the property. The man left on his own accord.

Weaver arrested
10:22 p.m. — 300 block of GMD
. Traffic Violation. A man driving a sport utility vehicle was pulled over for weaving in his lane and arrested for multiple charges of driving without a valid driver’s license.

Oct. 3
Powerful crash
3:22 a.m. — Off the Key.
Assist Other Agency. Police assisted Holmes Beach police with a single-car crash in which a driver fled the scene after hitting a power pole and a fire hydrant. The crash left much of Anna Maria Island without power and fresh water on the morning of Sunday, Oct. 3.

Family matter
8:15 a.m. — 700 block of Norton Street.
Trespassing. A homeowner gave police permission to kick her nephew and his wife out of her vacant home.

Beach ban
9:57 a.m. — Beer Can Island
. Code Enforcement. Police issued a woman a warning for walking with her dog on Beer Can Island.

That stinks
12:50 p.m. — Beer Can Island
. Disturbance. Police broke up an argument between two sets of boaters, who got into an argument because a dog owner refused to clean up the waste his dog left behind on Beer Can Island.

Police assistance
7:13 p.m. — 200 block of North Shore Road.
Trespassing. Police plan to work with condominium owners who are unhappy with people parking in their parking lot and going to the beach.

Worrisome weaver
7:40 p.m. — Off the Key
. Traffic Violation. Police pulled over a van driver for failing to stay in his lane and arrested the driver for driving without a valid driver’s license and for two driving-under-the-influence-related suspensions.

Oct. 4
Rear window
2:40 a.m. — 600 block of Broadway
. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman told police she heard a noise at her rear bedroom window and said it sounded like someone was trying to open it. She also noticed her shed door was open outside, but that it had been closed earlier. Nothing was missing from the shed.

Family reunion
7:13 a.m. — 5100 block of GMD
. Animal Found. A man found a black Labrador mix, and it was taken to the police department. Someone at the department recognized the dog as belonging to an island resident, and it was returned to its owner.

In the neighborhood
12:37 p.m. — 6000 block of GMD.
Suspicious Person. A man called to report a suspicious man on the sidewalk in front of his house. Police located the man and confirmed he was hired to do work for a neighbor.

Noise complaint
12:53 p.m. — 500 block of Companion Way
. Code Enforcement. A neighbor called to complain that a neighbor’s dog had been barking all day. Police observed the barking and left a note on the door for the homeowner to call them.

False alarm
5:32 p.m. — 5600 block of GMD
. Code Enforcement. Police didn’t notice any construction taking place after hours as reported by a neighbor.
