+ Mustangs win County Championship
The Lakewood Ranch High boys golf team won the 2010 Manatee County Championship Oct. 2 at Rosedale Golf & Country Club.
The Mustangs finished with a combined scored of 300. Ramsey Touchberry led the way for Lakewood with a 71. Touchberry, Connor Baldwin and Kyle Benson were all named to the All-County team.
Braden River finished in fourth place with a combined score of 340. Austin Acklin led the way for the Pirates with an 80.
+ East Bulldogs silence Storm
The East Manatee Bulldogs posted several impressive victories Oct. 8.
The Mitey Mite Blue team defeated the Storm 54-36 while the Mitey Mite Red team fell to the Predators 22-6.
Hunter Barnes and Jernard Porter each had a touchdown run and an interception, and Cole Haddad notched his second safety of the season, as the Junior Pee Wee team defeated the Storm 16-0.
Brandon Chrisan scored three touchdowns as the Pee Wee team defeated the Storm 32-0. Cody Hendrickson scored on a 73-yard touchdown run and kicker Zack Heffernan converted all four of his extra point attempts for the Bulldogs.
The Junior Midget team defeated the Storm 28-16.
Zack Staton scored on touchdown passes from Dusty Peebles and Chad Rex and also added a 50-yard touchdown run to lead the Midget team past the Prowlers 33-6. Dimitri Smith scored on a 45-yard touchdown run and Ryan Oaks found the end zone from 35 yards out. Rex also had an interception to lead the way defensively.
+ Lakewood swimmers power into record books
The Lakewood Ranch High girls and boys swim teams posted several new meet and school records at the Tri-County Swim Meet Oct. 9 at the Selby Aquatic Center.
Danielle Valley set a new meet record in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.33 and new meet and school records in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:56.58.
Will Kazokas set new school records in the 100 freestyle (48.54) and the 200 freestyle (1:43.51).
Shannon McCarthy finished first in the 50 freestyle (25.45) and Ashley Reid finished first in the 200 individual medley (2:11.22).
Overall, the Lakewood girls team finished fourth, while the boys team finished seventh.
+ Lady Pirates remain perfect in league play
The Braden River High volleyball team continued its district dominance, defeating Seminole Osceola 3-0 Oct. 7.
With the win, the Lady Pirates improve to 5-0 in Class 4A-District 10. The defending district champions will close out their district season at 6:30 p.m., today, against Dixie Hollins.
