Lakewood finishes second

The Lakewood Ranch High girls cross country team finished second at the Pre-State Invitational Oct. 16 at Little Everglades Ranch in Dade City.

Estero finished first with 108 points followed by Lakewood (118 points) and Chiles (124 points). Scoring points for the Lady Mustangs were Olivia Ortiz (9th), who broke her existing school record with a time of 18:15; Kristin Zarrella (17th) in 18:44; Devin McDermott (19th) in 18:47; Natalie Novak (21st) in 18:48 and Ashley Platt (63rd) with a time of 19:50. Zarrella, McDermott and Novak also all set personal records.

Emily Perez finished in 21:38. Lakewood will return to action Oct. 27 in the Manatee County Cross Country Meet at GT Bray.
