The Lakewood Ranch High boys and girls swim teams both came out victorious at the Manatee County Championships Oct. 20 at G.T. Bray.
The teams combined to win 19 of 24 events. The boys team finished with 512 points followed by Manatee (252). Braden River scored 131 points for fifth place. On the girls side, the Lady Mustangs scored 593 points followed by St. Stephen’s (298). Braden River finished with 290 points for fourth place.
Leading the way for the Mustangs were Will Kazokas and Razan Waliagha who both set new school records. Kazokas won the 100 backstroke in 55.82, capturing his fifth school record, while Waliagha finished third in the girls 1-meter diving competition with a score of 230.40.
Lakewood also recorded 14 first-place finishes on its way to setting 10 new Manatee County Championship records. Those setting new Manatee County Championship records include:
Boys 200 Medley Relay — Will Kazokas, Phil Czupryna, Jimmy Cascone and Ryan Stasiowski (1:48.97)
Boys 200 Freestyle — Jimmy Cascone (1:56.25)
Girls 200 Individual Medley — Ashley Reid (2:11.87)
Girls 50 and 100 Freestyle — Shannon McCarthy (25.53 and 56.40)
Boys 100 Freestyle — Will Kazokas (48.35)
Girls 500 Freestyle — Danielle Valley (5:10.50)
Girls 200 Freestyle Relay — Gillian Vogel, Raegan Sauer, Emily Wray and Rebekah Baker (1:47.07)
Boys 100 Backstroke — Will Kazokas (55.82)
Girls 400 Freestyle — Ashley Reid (3:53.07).
The Mustangs will return to action in the Class 2A-District 9 Swimming and Diving Championship Oct. 30 at the Northshore Aquatics Center in St. Petersburg.
