Checking on complaint
9:37 a.m. — 2200 block of GMD. Assist Other Agency. Police met an adult protective investigator from the Florida Department of Children and Families, who was on-site to check up on a complaint.
Oct. 12
Safety first
7:30 p.m. — Off the Key. Traffic Violation. Police pulled over a juvenile for riding a motorcycle without a helmet on Longboat Pass Bridge. It was discovered the boy was riding a moped, but he still received tickets for driving with a learner’s permit only and not wearing a helmet.
Stolen bicycle
10:15 a.m. — 4500 block of GMD. Larceny. A man told police someone stole a bicycle from his garage by entering through an unlocked hallway door.
Oct. 13
Special delivery
11:57 a.m. — Intersection of Broadway and Poinsettia Avenue. Suspicious Vehicle. Police observed a vehicle driving through the Longbeach Village neighborhood. It was determined the occupants were delivering a weekly advertisement paper.
Silence is golden
10:01 p.m. — 700 block of Bayside Drive. Animal Nuisance. A man told police his neighbor’s dogs had been barking for four hours. The neighbor told police he would attempt to keep the dogs quiet.
Oct. 14
Bicycling accident
8:24 a.m. — 300 block of GMD. Injury. A bicyclist riding in the paving construction area lost control of his bike and fell after his wheel caught the raised lip of the pavement in his lane. He was transported to the hospital for treatment and evaluation.
Golf-course grab
9:52 a.m. — 300 block of GMD. Larceny. A man told police someone stole the wallet from his golf bag while he was hitting golf balls at the driving range. A suspect could not be found.
Lost and found
11:47 a.m. — 5400 block of GMD. Found Property. A citizen dropped off $1.51, two keys and a lithium battery to the police department that were found lying in the road.
Caller ID
3:07 p.m. — 5000 block of GMD. Fraud. A man told police someone claiming to be a bank teller called his home and asked for his Social Security number to cash a cashier’s check for $500,000. The scammer hung up after the man pressed him for information about which branch from which he was calling.

Signs of wild life
8:45 a.m. — 100 block of Broadway. Larceny. A Public Works Department employee reported that someone ripped wildlife information signs off posts at the Broadway beach access.
Settle down
2:47 p.m. — 400 block of L’Ambiance. Property Damage. A man reported that a large sliding-glass window broke on the east side of a condominium unit. The $1,500 worth of damage appears to be caused by the glass settling into the window frame.
Oct. 16
Retrieval method
10:05 a.m. — 600 block of Sutton Place. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman reported that there was an abandoned boat in the bay behind her house. Police discovered the owner of the boat lived in Spanish Main and tried to locate him. Neighbors told police the boat had broken down the night before and the man had gone to retrieve it from the bay.
Oct. 17
After hours
12:36 a.m. — 700 block of Linley Street. Code Enforcement. A man was given a verbal warning for parking his pickup truck at the Linley Street boat ramp after hours and walking his dog without a leash.
Ground control
5:08 p.m. — 500 block of Putter Lane. Fire. Longboat Key Fire Rescue personnel discovered that an electrical line outside of a house had ignited some wood mulch in a plant bed. The smoldering mulch was extinguished.
Need a raise
7:14 p.m. — 5800 block of GMD. Assist Other Agency. Police observed a low power line stretching across Gulf of Mexico Drive that could have caused a potential traffic problem for large vehicles. Florida Power & Light raised the power line.
Oct. 18
Drug arrest made
9:18 a.m. — Intersection of North Shore Road and Firehouse Road. Narcotics Violation. A man was arrested for being in possession of half of an oxycodone pill, which police discovered while responding to a domestic violence incidence.
