Burned out
11:11 p.m. — 3100 block of Bayou Sound. Fire. Police responded to a report of an overheating stove, which set off a smoke detector. The stove was checked, and the smoke detector was reset.

Aug. 16
A little rusty
8:58 a.m. — 6700 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive. (GMD). Lost Property. A man told police someone stole two rusty beach cruiser bicycles from outside a condominium unit.

Key find
11:47 a.m. — 100 block of Broadway. Lost Property. A man reported someone stole the key to his car. He had left it on the front tire of his car while he went to the beach.

Out of control
10:30 p.m. — 5900 block of GMD. Driving Under the Influence. A man who was under the influence of drugs attempted to pass a vehicle while heading south on Gulf of Mexico Drive. The man lost control of his car and knocked down four mailboxes and a cable box. The accident caused more than $800 in damage.

Box blunder
9:08 a.m. — 1200 block of GMD. Alarm. Police believe a tile company inadvertently set off a fire alarm when it carried heavy boxes through a hallway.

Illuminating incident
3:39 p.m. — 5500 block of GMD. Traffic Violation. A man driving a car with a brake light out was arrested for driving with a suspended driver’s license.

Sleep pattern
11:12 p.m. — 1200 block of GMD. Noise Disturbance. A man reported someone was opening and closing his patio door too loudly, and he couldn’t get any sleep.

Aug. 21
Swimmer safety
11:24 a.m. — 100 block of Broadway. Rescue. Police stood by as a woman received medical attention after being hit by a wave in the Gulf.

Ordinance violations
1:16 p.m. — Beer Can Island. Code Enforcement. A man was issued a Notice to Appear in Court citation after he continuously violated a no-drinking alcohol ordinance on Beer Can Island.
1:21 p.m. — Beer Can Island. Code Enforcement. Three men were warned they couldn’t walk on Beer Can Island with a beer in their hands.
1:51 p.m. — Beer Can Island. Code Enforcement. A man who had been previously warned not to drink beer on Beer Can Island ran back to his boat after police spotted him with another beer in his hand. He was issued a Notice to Appear in Court citation.
1:57 p.m. — Beer Can Island. Code Enforcement. Three men were warned not to drink alcohol on Beer Can Island.

Dog owner receives citation
3:26 p.m. — Beer Can Island. Code Enforcement. Police watched as a man’s black Labrador immediately jumped off the boat after it had docked at Beer Can Island. The dog’s owner had previously been warned about having his dog on the beach. Police took the owner back to the mainland to retrieve his driver’s license so he could be issued a Notice to Appear in Court citation.

Beachgoers save swimmer
3:40 p.m. — 3400 block of GMD. Rescue. Three people jumped into the Gulf of Mexico to rescue someone who had been swimming in the Gulf.

Aug. 22
House call
8:19 a.m. 5400 block of GMD. Suspicious Circumstance. A man reported his wife missing after they had gotten into an argument. She was located at a friend's house.

Family feud
9:35 p.m. Off the Key. Assist Other Agency. Police located a man who jumped into Sarasota Bay to get away from a family dispute.

Noise violation
4:33 p.m.  — 500 block of Kingfisher Lane. Disturbance. The complainant called to complain that someone was making too much noise on her neighbor’s deck. A woman was issued a trespass warning and promised not to cause any more disturbances.
