+ Manatee Cal Ripken kicks off fall season
The Manatee Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth Youth Baseball at Heritage Harbour kicked off its fall season with opening day play Sept. 19.

The fields hosted games in all divisions throughout the day.

+ Bulldog Juniors drop first game 13-6
The Bulldog Junior Pee Wee team dropped its first game of the season to the Wolfpack 13-6. Cady Staton scored for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldog Midget team got on track, beating the Wolfpack 14-8. Zack Staton scored on a Dusty Peebles’ pass, while Dimitri Smith led the way on the ground with more than 100 yards rushing and one score. Staton also added a two-point kick conversion.


+ Former Mustang receives recognition
Kaitlyn Kerrigan, a 2010 graduate of Lakewood Ranch High School, is among the top soccer players in the nation, according to the NCAA Division II women’s soccer statistics released Sept. 14.

Kerrigan, a freshman midfielder at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C., ranks second in total assists (five) and third in assists per match (1.25). Kerrigan has earned an assist in each of the Lady Bobcats’ first four matches this season.


+ Mustang swimmers win Tri-Meet Sept. 15
Both the boys and girls swim teams from Lakewood Ranch High School beat Braden River and Manatee at the Tri-Meet Sept. 15 at the Lakewood Ranch YMCA.

The Mustang boys posted 585 points. Manatee was second with 361, and Braden River third with 156. The Lady Mustangs totaled 548 points. The Canes tallied 447 and the Pirates 420.

Individual boys winners included Lakewood’s Kevin Berkenbusch (200 free and 100 free), James Cascone (100 fly and 500 free), Phil Czupryna (200 IM) and Will Kazokas IV (50 free and 100 back).

Individual Lady Mustang winners included Rebekah Baker (200 IM), Kaleigh Dean (200 free), Shannon McCarthy (Ranch, 100 free), Sydney Panzarino (100 back), Ashley Reid (100 breast) and Raegan Sauer (500 free).

Braden River’s Shelby Graves won the 100 fly.


+ Ranch Y swimmers impressive in St. Pete
Lakewood Ranch YMCA took 23 swimmers to the Total Team Ware Invitational Sept. 17-19 at Northshore pool in St. Petersburg.

Sydney Cusick placed third and Anna Stock eighth in the 8-and-under girls division.

Top-10 finishers in individual events included Lauren Csubak (eighth in the 50 free and sixth in the 500 free); Jon Chaires (fifth in the 50 free); Sydney Cusick (second in the 25 breast, fourth in the 25 back and seventh in the 25 free); Stock (fourth in the 25 breast, seventh in the 25 back, 10th in the 25 fly and ninth in the 25 free); Amelia Skoumal (10th in the 25 breast and sixth in the 25 fly); Courtney Lancaster (ninth in the 200 breast); Ariel Basden (seventh in the 200 breast); and Kevin Berkenbusch (ninth in the 100 free).
