Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight announced Sept. 22 the installation of permanent pharmaceutical drop boxes in the lobby of the Criminal Justice Center, located at 2071 Ringling Blvd. The boxes give citizens the opportunity to turn in controlled substances and unused or expired prescription medications year-round.

The Sheriff’s Office will participate in the National Take-Back initiative, organized by the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25. Medication turn-in is anonymous. Prescription and over-the-counter solid dosage medications, such as tablets and capsules, are accepted.
