Sept. 15
Helping hand
11:42 a.m. — 6700 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD)
. Assist Other Agency. Police assisted the Department of Community Affairs, which was investigating someone’s home where an alleged case of abuse occurred.

Motor mouth
3:30 p.m. — 700 block of St. Judes Drive North
. Code Enforcement. A man called to report a motor home parked in front of a neighbor’s house. The owner told police he was renting the home for a vacation and was leaving the next day.

Sept. 17
Abandoned sailboat
10:36 a.m. — 4700 block of
GMD. Boat. Police inspected an abandoned sailboat and found the hull identification number. Police stored the boat because it was listed as abandoned.

Construction obstruction
2:07 p.m. — 5300 block of GMD
. Highway Obstruction. Police warned a truck driver he couldn’t park his 18-wheeler in the middle of Gulf of Mexico Drive to unload construction materials for a house.

Gas leak discovered
4:57 p.m. — 600 block of GMD
. Gas Leak. Police stood by as the Longboat Key Fire Rescue located an underground tank with a leaky gas valve.

Sept. 18

Flag recovered
9:07 a.m. — 600 Marbury Lan
e. Public Service. A man called to report that his American flag and its flagpole had been removed from their normal location and were placed in the rear of his home. Police noted the flag was wet from the rain and the pole was falling away from the wall. It was determined a passerby noticed the flag lying on the ground and placed both items behind the house.

Police find drugs
1:36 a.m. — 2900 block of GMD. Narcotics Violation. Police saw a woman shut the headlights off of her car when she saw a patrol car approach. The woman’s front seat passenger, who was acting nervous, told police there “was weed in the center console” when they received permission to search the car. Pills and a pipe were also found in the car. The passenger was arrested.

Relocation plan
9:23 a.m. — 2900 block of GMD
. Animal. The Public Works Department informed police that a large and aggressive bee colony was discovered near someone’s home. Police roped off the right of way where the hive was located, and a beekeeper was called to relocate the hive.

Beer violation
12:01 p.m. — Beer Can Island
. Code Enforcement. Police pointed out to a woman drinking beer on Beer Can Island that a sign on the island states “no alcohol.”

Dog-walking violation
12:10 p.m. — 300 block of North Shore Road. Code Enforcement. A woman was told she couldn’t walk her dog on any town beach, let alone a beach that was closed off to the public for safety reasons. She was issued a warning for her behavior.

Owner recovers belongings
4:57 p.m. — 100 block of GMD. Found Property. Police found a bag containing a cell phone and cigarettes on the ground in Overlook Park. After making contact with the last person to call the phone, the owner was located and came to retrieve his belongings.

Jeep towed away
11:01 p.m. — 7000 block of GMD. Traffic Violation. The driver of a blue Jeep was pulled over because a tag check revealed the owner of the Jeep had a suspended driver’s license. A woman was driving the Jeep for the owner, but it was discovered her driver’s license was suspended as well. Her driver’s license was confiscated and a tow truck took the Jeep away.

Sept. 19
Upset dog owner
4:29 p.m. — 200 block of GMD. Code Enforcement. Police pulled up alongside a man who was about to take his dog onto the beach and explained the ordinance prohibiting such action. The dog owner became argumentative until police showed him the signs and told him other places where dogs were allowed. He was later found with the dog in Overlook Park and told police he didn’t see any signs prohibiting dogs there. Police showed him the signs and he began insulting police until he was told he would be arrested unless he left the park.

Trailer damages post
8:08 p.m. — 100 block of GMD. Property Damage. Police observed a rope that appeared to be cut and a bent wooden post while patrolling Overlook Park. Police believe a Jet-Ski trailer that was parked near the area earlier in the day caused the damage.
