Two Nolan Middle School students soon will be heading to the University of Florida to compete in a state agriculture competition.

Mollie Rainwater and Brooke Troyer took first place in a local FFA Association Career Development Event. The girls took part in ornamental horticulture demonstrations, which included a practice concerning and/or maintainin the productive capacity of the soils.

Rainwater and Troyer developed a “soil swifter” to weed and till soil and to disperse fertilizer and pesticides.
Students used a variety of materials to market and sell this product to the judges, including a live demonstration, a commercial and brochure and business cards for prospective buyers.
