Braden River sophomore Bridget Lanier won the long jump (15 feet, 3 inches) and the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches), helping lead the Lady Pirates to a first-place victory at the Palmetto Relays April 1. Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.

What was your reaction when you learned you won both events?
I was really happy and pleased. It just showed that the amount of work I’ve put in was worth it.

Do you prefer the long jump or the high jump?
Long jump. It feels like you’re flying. And the amount of feet that you get is amazing. Most people don’t believe it.

How did you get into track?
I did a summer track program before high school, and then I started my freshman year. I decided it was a lot of fun. The people are really nice, and the coaches are supportive.

Do you do any other events?
I do the 300-meter hurdles and pole vault.

Do you have any siblings?
I have a brother, Trey, who is in seventh grade at Braden River Middle School.

Do you know what you want to be when you grow up?
I want to become a doctor, but I’m not exactly sure in what field.

Who is your biggest role model?
My parents. They’ve made me who I am. They’ve taught me the right things to do to be an overall well-rounded person.

What’s your favorite movie?
“True Grit.” That’s a really good movie.

What’s your favorite subject?
It’s a tie between vet assisting and biology.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Ireland. I’ve been there before, and I had a really good time. So I would like to go again.

What was your favorite cartoon show growing up?
“Spongebob.” It made me laugh.
