Getting out of scrapes
8:28 p.m. — 4700 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD). Property Damage. A man told police that his rental car suffered several scrapes on the right-side rear door that weren’t there before. Damage was estimated at $300.

Light the way
1 a.m. — 800 block of Jungle Queen Way. Suspicious Vehicle. A man called to report that someone drove a pickup truck down his road with its high beams on and parked on the street. The truck could not be found.

Hung out to dry
9:51 a.m. — 600 block of Longboat Club Road. Civil Disturbance. A woman told police that she stopped payment on a check three years ago after she wasn’t satisfied with a local dry cleaner’s alterations of her clothes. When she dropped off clothes for cleaning recently, the cleaner refused to give them back to her until she paid for the prior alterations. A dry cleaner employee told police it was the store’s policy to perform such action when there is an outstanding balance for a stopped check. Both parties were advised their matter was a civil matter and not a criminal matter.

6:10 p.m. — 5400 block of GMD. Civil Disturbance. A resort employee filed a police report because an employee violated a non-compete clause in her contract.
MARCH 27
Too close for comfort
3:12 p.m. — 3300 block of GMD. Boat. Police observed two Jet Skis too close to shore. The Jet Ski riders resumed normal operation 300 feet from shore after police notified them of the town’s code.
Fire extinguished
9:6 p.m. — 2700 block of GMD. Code Enforcement. A group of college kids from Chicago put out their beach fire when police asked them to do so.

Request granted
12:58 p.m. — 1200 block of GMD. Fraud. A woman told police she received an e-mail from her cable provider that asked her to update her billing information and her date of birth and Social Security information. She planned to place a fraud alert on her credit reports after completing the request.
It’s time to move on
7:53 p.m. — 3400 block of GMD. Code Enforcement. Police saw a motor home parked on a vacant piece of land and found the driver asleep inside. The man told police he had been driving for 14 hours and pulled over to rest. Because of some bad weather, police said he could stay as long as he left first thing in the morning.

Vacant home in disrepair
10:40 a.m. — 500 block of Harbor Gate Way. Security Check. Police found the door to a home open and discovered dead rats inside and a pool full of green water. The door was closed, and the Code Enforcement Department was called to investigate.

Age-old issue
March 26, 1980
9:24 a.m. 4300 block of GMD. Officer reported a physical clash between two men aged 75 and 76. Altercation brought to a halt by shortness of breath on both parts. Only minor injuries sustained.
