Riverview High School announced former NFL football player Todd Johnson as the school's new football coach at a press conference held today at the school.

Johnson will replace longtime Riverview football coach John Sprague, who announced his retirement in March

“We had outstanding applicants and we went for the best,” said Riverview athletic director Jim Ward.

Johnson is a Riverview graduate of the class of 1997 and went on to play football at the University of Florida before joining the NFL.

“We’re going to make sure [the players] are doing the right thing not only on the football field, but also in the classroom,” said Johnson. “I know this is a big commitment and I am ready for it.”
