School bully
7:30 a.m. — 1500 block of First Street. Battery. A student got onto a school bus. He put his feet up on the seat and fell asleep. A few stops later, another boy got on the bus and sat on top of the student’s feet. The student woke up and tried to move his feet, when the other boy began punching him. The suspect got off the bus at his school. Police will check the bus surveillance video to see if they can identify the suspect.
Sleeps with the fishes
1 p.m. — 100 block of White Oak Way. Suspicious Person. A man called police in reference to a dispute he had with someone over parking. The man said that the person with whom he had argued may be “part of the mob.”
A little jaded
2:40 p.m. — 1500 block of Second Street. Theft. Several months ago, a man wanted to sell his former landlord a piece of jade art for $1,200. The landlord said he would think about it, so the man left the art with him. On the above date, the man went back to pick up the art, but the landlord, who never paid for it, refused to return it. An officer spoke to the landlord, who said he was going to keep the art until the man paid $4,400 in back rent. The man plans to press charges against the landlord.
Stop-and-go traffic
2:57 p.m. — North Gulfstream Avenue. Road Hazard. Complainant said a traffic light was not cycling properly. He said there were 2.55 seconds of red and 55 seconds of green. An officer checked out the light and determined the only problem was that there was heavy traffic at the intersection.
Seeing double
4 p.m. — 800 block of South Tamiami Trail. Dispute. The manager for an eyeglasses store said a man bought a pair of glasses but called back a couple of days later to complain that he was seeing double. He threatened to return to the store and kill them. The manager said the man appeared to be drunk when the man bought the glasses and again when he called to threaten her. That could explain the double vision.

Swing low
7:29 a.m. — Indian Beach Drive. Road Hazard. Caller said a wire above the street had a loose tree branch hanging on it. The low-hanging branch was close to hitting passing school buses.
Here’s a tip
8:50 p.m. — 3400 block of Clark Road. Theft. A middle-age woman walked into a restaurant and approached the counter. An employee asked her what she wanted to order. The woman responded by snatching the tip jar and bolting out the front door. The employee was able to get the woman’s license number as she drove away.
Pre-game nap
8:02 a.m. — 2600 block of Waldemere Street. Suspicious Person. Complainant reported someone sleeping on a racquetball court, with a blanket.
