Reading garden to honor teacher

A barbecue fundraising dinner to support a memorial garden for Jeanette McKinney, a preschool teacher at Julie Rohr Academy for more than 30 years, will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at the school.

The school is transforming its reading garden, where older students read to younger students, into a memorial for McKinney, who died Jan. 6 at age 71. She left behind thousands of JRA students, alumni and parents who adored her ability to make every child feel special.

Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for children. Call 323-7733 for information.
