Braden River wins Bill Longshore Tournament

The Braden River High softball team posted two shutouts en route to winning the 15th annual Bill Longshore Tournament April 15-16 in Naples.

The Braden River High softball team went 3-0 to win the Navy Bracket of the 15th annual Bill Longshore Tournament April 15-16 in Naples.

The Lady Pirates defeated Holy Names 17-3, Eau Galle 1-0 and Jupiter 1-0 to win the championship.

Hannah Loyer allowed three runs on three hits while striking out nine and walking five in five innings of work against Holy Names. Loyer earned her sixth win of the season.

Nicole Tira and Alyssa Patneaude both hit a homerun, finishing with five RBIs and three runs scored to lead the way for Braden River at the plate. Loyer went 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored and Ashley Allard finished with two RBIs and two runs scored. Kenya Yancy, Brooke Ribarich and Katie Huss all hit a double, finishing with a combined three RBIs and five runs scored.

In Game 2, Courtney Mirabella pitched a no-hitter, striking out 18 and walking two. Mirabella returned to the mound in the championship game against Jupiter, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out nine.

Yancy went 2-for-4, driving in the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Braden River returns to action at 7 p.m., tomorrow night in the semifinals of the Class 4A-District 10 tournament. The Lady Pirates will host the winner of tonight’s quarterfinal between St. Petersburg Lakewood and Palmetto.
