The Sarasota Crew won four gold medals and a bronze medal at the U.S. Club National Championships in late July in Indianapolis.
With their gold-medal victory, the Junior A (under 19) Quad team represented the U.S. Junior National Team at the CanAmMex Regatta Aug. 8-12 in Welland, Ontario. The team participated in three categories: quad, double and single.
The following categories won U.S. Club National Championship titles:
Men’s Junior B (under 17) single event rowed by Travis Taaffe
Men’s Junior A (under 19) quad event rowed by Taaffe, Ryan Anderson, Carson Green and Victor Tarrau
Women’s Intermediate and Women’s Senior double events rowed by Carli Goldberg and Cara Linenkohl
Junior A double event rowed by Taaffe and Tarrau (Bronze)
In early August, the Crew also traveled to the Canadian Henley Regatta, which featured crew teams from South America, Central America and North America. The Crew received four gold medals at the regatta.
“Bringing home four golds from this event was outstanding,” coach Casey Galvenek said. “All our rowers put their best forward against top-notch international competitors. In the Women’s Senior Quad event, our women rowers were patient and focused, pulling from behind to nab a stunning victory against teams from Argentina and Mexico.”
The Crew won gold medals at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in the following categories:
Women’s under 23 double event rowed by Goldberg and Linenkohl
Men’s under 17 single event rowed by Taaffe
Women’s Senior double event rowed by Linenkohl and Meghan O’Leary
Women’s Senior Quad event rowed by Goldberg, Anna Kobayashi, O’Leary and Linenkohl
