+ Have you seen this face?
Shayna Teicher is known around town for the skin-tastic makeup, lotions, nail polish and other body accessories that line the walls of her holistic beauty shop, Butterfly Effect, in Citrus Square Plaza. But did you know this talented girl can sing and strum the guitar as well?

Teicher played a few of her favorite songs and even one of her own after hours Thursday, Aug. 11, at Pastry Art. She made a few jokes about her performance, but judging from the crowd’s response — heavy clapping — you’ll likely see her behind a microphone again in the future.

+ Strauss whips Blues Fest into shape
Sarasota Blues Festival owner Barbara Strauss originally announced she would host a fabulous gathering Aug. 13, at the Gator Club to pass the torch on to the new owners, ExtremeTix.

In the middle of Ed Morrell’s speech to the partygoers, Strauss made her way through the crowd — whip in hand — proclaimed that she’d whipped enough people’s behinds and thrust the whip in Morrell’s direction. Morrell, ExtremeTix’s managing director of Three Zebras Entertainment, ceremoniously accepted the whip and raised it in the air while the crowd laughed and clapped.

At the same moment, someone shouted, “Three cheers for Barb! Hip, hip, hooray!” and the crowd cheered.

During the evening, Strauss’ friends surprised her with Blues Fest-themed cupcakes for her birthday. They grabbed the blue bow off the box, plopped it on top of her head and serenaded her.
