Braden River TOPSoccer will host registration for its upcoming fall season from 5-7 p.m., Sept. 1-2 at the Braden River Soccer Club clubhouse behind Lakewood Ranch High School, 5500 Lakewood Ranch Blvd.

TOPSoccer is a free soccer program for children, ages 4 and up, with special needs, including Down syndrome, autism and Asperger syndrome, as well as other developmental and physical limitations and disabilities.

“All levels of ability are represented on the field,” TOPSoccer program coordinator Dave Robinson said. “Some of our athletes are very young and simply learn and practice how to successfully kick the ball into the net while others are older and more developed to where they can more fully participate in games. It is so exciting to watch the athletes accomplish their goals.

“Many parents are surprised as to how much we can get accomplished on the field,” Robinson said. “ It is a great avenue for kids to improve their social and physical skills in a real world environment, as well as learning how to implement basic life skills like using patience and turn taking.”

The fall 2012 season will begin Sept. 25 and run through Nov. 20. Games will be held from noon to 2 p.m., Sundays.

Registration is free, but parents are required to provide a release or letter from their family doctor allowing their athletes to play soccer, as well as a photo ID. Participants will also be sized for their jerseys during registration.

Participants will receive a uniform, soccer ball and a water bottle as part of the program.
