The Sarasota Young Voices program held a one-week summer camp Aug. 15 to Aug. 19, to prepare for a commemorative concert to be held Sept. 11, at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. Led by Genevieve Beauchamp, Sarasota Young Voices founder and artistic director, the singers spent part of each day in choir practice and the other portion in Beverly Boardman’s music-and-movement class.

They beat bongo drums and other instruments to the rhythm that Boardman taught them how to play.

The program has been growing since it began in 2007, Boardman said.

“When she (Beauchamp) first started, she had about 12 kids, now she has more than 60,” Boardman said.

The choir is currently in its fifth season.
