East County parents seeking information on child-related issues and programs, as well as some family fun, will have it at their fingertips this weekend.
The 17th Annual Manatee Children’s Summit will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Manatee Convention Center, 1 Haben Blvd., Palmetto.
This year’s event is themed “Healthy Families — Happy Families.”
“This year we’re focusing on an awareness of healthy eating and healthy habits to share with children and families,” Manatee County Human Services Manager Mike Neuges said. “We’ve got all kinds of activities and booths that will promote healthy habits and alternatives for kids.”
At the event, parents will have access to information about child care, after-school programs, substance abuse prevention and other issues. Parents also can have their children immunized for free at the event.
Festivities also include activities for children, such as a rock-climbing wall, speed pitch, a bounce house and more. There also will be bicycle and pedestrian safety demonstrations, among others.
Last year, more than 10,000 people attended the event.
