Twelve-year-old forward Skylar Jungers recorded a hat trick to lead The Out-of-Door Academy girls soccer team to 4-1 victory over Bayshore Dec. 1. It was the seventh-grader’s first hat trick while playing for the Lady Thunder. Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.
What was your reaction when you got your hat trick?
I was happy, because everyone was really proud of me.
How did you get into soccer?
I’ve been playing ever since I was old enough to play. I think my parents made me, and I wanted to try something new.
What do you enjoy the most about soccer?
The teamwork — just everyone working together and making new friends.
Do you play soccer outside of ODA?
Yes. I play for the Braden River Soccer Club U13 team.
Do you have any brothers or sisters?
I have a 14-year-old brother, Carson, who also goes to ODA and two sisters: Alex, 16, and Jaden, 10.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Australia. I’ve just kind of always wanted to go there.
Do you have a favorite subject?
Drama. I like it because we do fun games and activities.
Did you have a favorite cartoon show growing up?
“The Power Rangers” if you call that a cartoon. My brother, sisters, cousins and I used to dress up and pretend we were the (Power Rangers).
Did you have a favorite Disney princess?
Belle.
Are you from Florida originally?
I was born here, but I grew up in Missouri. I lived there until I was 7 years old and, then, we moved back to Florida.
Do you have a favorite dessert?
Ice cream.
What’s your favorite board game?
“Monopoly.” It was like the family game that we all used to play.
Do you have any pets?
I have three dogs.
Do you have a favorite theme park?
Busch Gardens, because of the rides.
