Alarming evening
4:03 a.m. — Off the Key. Assist Other Agency. Police heard a restaurant alarm going off while driving through St. Armands Circle and checked the business, because all Sarasota police officers were responding to a report of a shooting.
Identity crisis
3:25 p.m. — 3700 block of GMD. Lost or Missing Property. A woman reported that her driver’s license was missing and said she last used it for identification three days earlier at a grocery store.
Putting out fires
9:29 p.m. — 4300 block of GMD. Fire. Five people agreed to put out their fire; remove the ashes with a wheelbarrow; and fill in the small pit they had dug after police informed them of their ordinance violation.
Chauffeur service
10:25 p.m. — 3100 block of GMD. Public Service. Police checked on the welfare of a woman, who said she was OK and was waiting for the bus to Sarasota. The woman was still waiting 45 minutes later, so police drove her to Sarasota themselves.

Hot spot
9:23 a.m. — Off the Key. Fire. Police contacted Longboat Key Fire Rescue after a resident reported seeing smoke on the south end of Jewfish Key. Firefighters advised that a small area of mulch was smoldering and that they extinguished the fire.
Warning signs
2:43 p.m. — 100 block of Broadway. Dog on the Beach. A woman who was on the beach with her terrier apologized when police told her of the town’s ordinance prohibiting dogs on the beach. She said she didn’t see the portion of the beach rules sign that details pet restrictions.

Water main break
5:22 p.m. — 1100 block of Bogey Lane. Assist Other Agency. Police assisted Public Works with traffic control while a 6-inch water main was excavated and repaired.
Dec. 1
Neighborhood watch
1:06 a.m. — 5800 block of GMD. Suspicious Vehicle. A caller reported that the occupants of a gray pickup truck appeared to be watching her load her vehicle. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.
Nov. 27
Burn notice
4:26 p.m. — 700 block of Longboat Court. Brush Fire. A man apologized and immediately extinguished a fire in his yard after police responded to a report of a man burning yard waste. The man told police that he had just moved to Longboat Key and didn’t know about the ordinance he violated.
