Dick June, of Siesta Interiors Inc., has been designing spaces in Sarasota and Manatee counties for 26 years. One trend he is seeing is a move toward a light, transitional look — a Manhattan feel — as opposed to heavy, Tuscany-inspired looks that have been popular in the past. A transitional interior creates an inviting space through the use of a neutral color scheme and light and warmth. A recently completed interior design of a villa in Sarasota County reflects that lighter look.
When designing villas and condos, which are generally smaller in size as compared to homes, June says the key is using lighter tones so the unit doesn’t feel closed in.
The golden-hued walls were used throughout for continuity, and the lighter color allows the contemporary artwork that adorns the walls to stand out. Each piece of art was selected based on the room in which it hangs.
Color palettes are also lightening up, according to June, which is evident in the warm, golden hues and teal accents.
