Braden River High sophomore forward Austin Myara tallied his first hat trick of the season; helping lead the visiting Pirates to a 5-0 victory over Charlotte in a Class 4A-District 11 match Dec. 8. Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.
What was your reaction when you got your hat trick?
I was just happy. It made me feel good, because we were winning 3-0.
How did you get into soccer?
I’ve been playing my whole life. My dad is from Paris, and he always played soccer. He’s had me playing since I was a little kid.
What do you enjoy the most about soccer?
Just being out with my friends, playing and having fun.
What’s the toughest part about soccer?
Definitely the running.
Do you play club soccer?
Yes, I play for the Clearwater Chargers.
If you could play another sport for a day, what would it be?
Basketball. I just really enjoy going out and playing for fun.
Do you have a favorite subject?
Math. I’m just good at it.
Who is your biggest role model?
My Clearwater Chargers soccer coach Garth Pollonais. He always has faith in me and faith in my teammates. Even when things don’t look (good), he always finds (something) positive to pull the best out of us.
Do you have any siblings?
I have a stepbrother, Adam, who is 25 years old.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Breckenridge, Colo., to go snowboarding and spend time with my family if they could come.
Do you have a favorite type of music?
Hip hop and rap. It just sounds better to me than other types of music.
Are you from Florida originally?
Yes, I was born in Tampa.
