The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
PALM-AIRE
Dec. 3
10:52 a.m. — 4800 block of Palm-Aire Drive. Found property. The responding deputy arrived to pick up a found bike. The complainant stated he didn’t know whom the bike belonged to; it wasn’t there the night before. The bike was placed into the Bike Barn for safekeeping.
Dec. 5
7:43 p.m. — 7300 block of West Country Club Drive. Death investigation. The complainant found her husband deceased in his reclining chair when she returned home earlier in the day. He was pronounced dead by EMS at 7:52 p.m. The wife said he had been sick for a while and appeared to have died from natural causes. His doctor agreed to sign the death certificate. The responding deputy observed no signs of foul play and contacted the funeral services of the wife’s choosing.
OTHER
Dec. 1
6:45 a.m. — 6100 block of 33rd Street E. Suspicious incident. The complainant was about to unlock the gate on the Southeast corner of the property, shortly after arriving for work, when he noticed the alarm wires were unplugged. The wires were attached where the two sides of the gate meet. They were not damaged, and no burglary occurred to the business. The complainant stated he is believes the two ends of the alarm wires were plugged in when he left work the night before. He walked the fence line and checked all doors and gates and found nothing else suspicious or missing. There are security cameras on the property, but they are currently not working.
Dec. 5
12:19 a.m. — 6225 State Road 64 East. Possession of a controlled substance. The responding deputy got behind a U-Haul truck but was unable to see the license plate because it was obstructed. He conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The deputy approached the rear of the vehicle, and for his safety, asked the driver if he minded stepping out of the vehicle. The suspect stated, “OK” and got out of the vehicle. The deputy ran the suspect’s license, and it was suspended. The deputy told the suspect his license was suspended for failure to pay, and he stated he knew. The suspect was placed under arrest. The suspect left the vehicle running with the door open. When the deputy went to shut the vehicle off and close the door, he observed a bottle of Xanax on the floor. The pills were confirmed through poison control. Post-Miranda, the suspect stated the pills were his.
SARASOTA
Dec. 1
12:01 a.m. — 5800 block of Whitfield Avenue. Fraudulent use/possession of an ID of another without consent. The complainant reported the business he owns had unauthorized transactions come out of its checking account. He doesn’t know who took the funds out of the account and is still in physical possession of all debit cards and checks.
SARASOTA COUNTY
Dec. 2
8:20 p.m. — 3500 block of 65th Avenue Circle E. Burglary. The complainant reported money and her prescription medication had been taken from inside her locked bedroom while she was in jail. She stated her daughter was inside the residence when she was arrested and believes she or one of her friends went into the room and took the items. The complainant stated when she returned home, her bedroom door was still locked and she noticed the bedroom blinds and an outside bush had been damaged. A road deputy was dispatched to obtain possible prints.
