Mustang grapplers finish second in district

The Lakewood Ranch High varsity wrestling team finished second at the Class 2A-District 11 Tournament Feb. 5 at Palmetto.

Eight wrestlers qualified for the regional tournament Feb. 11-12 in Charlotte. Evan Dipsiner (103 pounds) and Kyle Riley-Hawkins (189) captured individual district titles for Lakewood. Blake Riley-Hawkins (119), Ryan Leverenz (125), Mike Dauphinee (130), Nick Schilson (145), Damian Simunovic (152) and Kevin Garza (171) will also advance.

This season marks only the second time in school history at the Mustangs have won a district wrestling trophy. The first time was in 2000.
