Lakewood Ranch High senior goalkeeper Dan Murray blocked four consecutive penalty kicks, propelling the Mustangs to a 3-2 (2-1, PK) victory over Tampa Jesuit in a Class 4A-Region 3 quarterfinal match Feb. 3. With the win, Lakewood advanced to the regional semifinals Feb. 8. Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.

How does this game stack up to your other games?
This was the best game of my life by far. Usually when we go down, I lose my temper, and my game goes, but this time, I was able to stay (calm), and we fought back.

How long have you been playing soccer?
I’ve been playing since I was 4 years old. I started playing goalie seriously my sophomore year because coach Bavaro (basically) made me.

What’s the toughest part about being a goalkeeper?
You have to be perfect. It’s very mentally tiring. The whole team is looking for you to lead them, so you have to be strong.

What are your plans for next year?
I want to attend the University of Central Florida for physical therapy unless I get an offer somewhere in Florida (to play soccer).

Do you have any siblings?
Yes. I have a sister, Katie, who is in eighth grade, and two brothers: Mike, who is in sixth grade, and Will, who is in third grade.

What’s your favorite type of music?
Country by far. I like Brad Paisley and Kenny Chesney.

Do you have any rituals that you do before games?
We always pray together, and then I pray personally too during the national anthem. I also always wear the same black jersey. I’m very superstitious that way.

If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?
It would be cool to see into the future, especially as a goalie because then I could see where the shots are going.

What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
“Rocko’s Modern Life.” My stepdad and I used to always watch it together.
