Bird Key home sells for more than $1.4 million

Albert and Myra Burstein, of Sarasota, sold their home at 636 Mourning Dove Drive on Bird Key to Denis Kavanagh for $1,437,500. Built in 2000, the 4,009-square-foot home has four bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms and a swimming pool. The property last sold for $505,000 in April 1998.

The sale was the second-largest of 12 transactions recorded during the week of Jan. 24 through Jan. 28, on Longboat, Lido, St. Armands and Bird keys at the Sarasota and Manatee county courthouses. The largest was the $7,494,500 deal reported in the Jan. 27 issue of the Longboat Observer, in which Christopher and Lynette Unnerstall, of Eureka, Mo., transferred the home at 290 N. Washington Drive, on St. Armands Key, to Sarasota Vacation Property LLC, a Missouri limited-liability company. Of the remaining sales, nine took place on Longboat Key, including two in Manatee County, and two occurred on Bird Key. Five of the week’s sales exceeded $1 million.

In a second Bird Key sale, Walter Corey III, individually and as trustee of the P.G.C. Trust, and his wife, Julie Corey, of Yarmouth, Maine, sold the home at 492 Partridge Circle to Charlie Moore and Nancy Barry, husband and wife, of Northfield, Ill., for $1.05 million. Built in 1968, the 4,091-square-foot home has four bedrooms, five bathrooms and a swimming pool. It sold for $850,000 in June 2000.

The Pierre
Joseph and Ora Mendels, of Villanova, Pa., sold Unit 804 at the 66-unit Pierre, 455 Longboat Club Road, to 3292 LLC, an Illinois limited-liability company with a Lake Forest, Ill., address, for $1.35 million. Built in 1990, the 2,880-square-foot unit has two bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms. It last sold for $700,000 in February 1991.

Longboat Key Towers
Alexander and Phyllis Wilhelm, of Longboat Key, sold Unit S-801 at the 88-unit Longboat Key Towers, 601 Longboat Club Road, to Charles Howey Jr., of Grosse Ile, Mich., for $1,299,000. Built in 1970, the 2,420-square-foot unit has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. It last sold for $655,000 in September 1996.

Tangerine Bay Club
Arthur and Susan Warshaw, 3334 Sabal Cove Lane, sold Unit No. 111 in Building 1A at 340 Gulf of Mexico Drive in the 90-unit Tangerine Bay Club to Leon Wechsler, of Fairfax, Va., for $937,500. Built in 1991, the 2,394-square-foot unit has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. It last sold for $675,000 in May 1999.

The Players Club
Dan and Mary Phelps, of Oak Brook, Ill., sold Unit 202 at 1445 Gulf of Mexico Drive in Unit III of the 134-unit Players Club to M. Darren and Michelle Root, of Bloomington, Ind., for $750,000. Built in 1982, the 1,621-square-foot unit has two bedrooms and three bathrooms. It last sold for $782,500 in February 2006.

Beachplace
Robert and Sylvia Pearce, of Lakeland, sold Unit No. 205 in Building 11 at 1085 Gulf of Mexico Drive at Beachplace III to Placido and Filene Blanco, of Coral Gables, for $532,500. Built in 1981, the 1,819-square-foot unit has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It last sold for $550,000 in October 2003.
In a second Beachplace sale, Ben Kessler, of Highland Park, Ill., sold Unit No. 303 in Building 4 at 1115 Gulf of Mexico Drive to Michael Balk, of Atlanta, for $425,000. Built in 1979, the 1,503-square-foot unit has two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Longboat Shores
Venkatesh and Denise Manda, of Stillwater, Minn., sold their home at 602 Buttonwood Drive in the Longboat Shores subdivision to Robert and Carol Erker, of Barrington, Ill., for $488,000. Built in 1961, the 1,796-square-foot home has two bedrooms, three bathrooms and a swimming pool. It last sold for $475,000 in October 2007.

Spanish Main Yacht Club
Peter Guion, of Alpharetta, Ga., sold Unit 5 at 541 N. Spanish Drive in the 212-unit Spanish Main Yacht Club to Burton and Carolyn Beam, of Neptune, N.J., for $135,000. Built in 1968, the 1,365-square-foot unit has one bedroom and one bathroom. It sold for $70,000 in May 1990.

Silver Sands
Lee Shangold, of East Setauket, N.Y., sold Unit 233 at the 35-unit Silver Sands condominium, 5841 Gulf of Mexico Drive, to James and Elizabeth Pelinat, of Getzville, N.Y., for $130,000. Built in 1953 and remodeled in 2004, the 450-square-foot unit has one bedroom and one bathroom. It last sold for $395,000 in March 2005.
