+ Removing Key bicycle signs would be a major safety issue
Dear Editor:
I am a Longboat Key year-round resident and a person who enjoys cycling on my home Key.

I read with interest most of the comments about removing some of the bicycle signs to improve the view for those living on and traveling through the Key.

As I understand it, the arguments for removal are as follows:

1. Overall beautification.

2. Because there are not many accidents, the signs are not needed.

3. We should not be cycling on Longboat Key anyway, because it is too dangerous.

4. Some of the residents, and I assume commissioners, just do not want them there.

The argument for retaining them is:

1. Safety.

I would be interested in the explanation as to how we justify removing the signs that were put up there for safety reasons and are doing the job that they were put up to do?

In addition, why would we take tax dollars from the many things that do not get done on this Key to spend it on this project?

I am against removal of the signs for safety reasons.
