Pirates, Mustangs advance to district final

The Braden River and Lakewood Ranch High boys basketball teams will face each other at 7 p.m., tonight in the Class 4A-District 10 championship.

The top-seeded Pirates are seeking their first district title in school history while the Mustangs are looking for their first district title since 2005. The two teams also secured themselves a spot in this year’s regional tournament.

Braden River (18-7) defeated Bayshore 50-46 in a Class 4A-District 10 semifinal contest Feb. 9. Point guard Tre Bryant scored 21 points, including five three-pointers, to lead the way for Braden River. Trevon Young followed with 13 points.

The second-seeded Mustangs (20-7) advanced to the district championship with a 58-52 victory over St. Petersburg Lakewood in the other district semifinal. Brian Cobb scored 21 points and hauled in 14 rebounds to lead the way for Lakewood Ranch. Brett Hanewich added 12 points and seven rebounds.
