Christi Frost got into sailing when she was 10 years old. Her now brother-in-law was teaching sailing, and once she got on the water, she never looked back. Frost, 17, is a junior at Pine View School and sails at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron for both her school and for the Sarasota Youth Sailing Team. Frost also teaches sailing during the summer as part of the Sarasota Youth Sailing program.

What are your strengths and weaknesses?
My strengths are definitely upwind in big breeze and in light breeze, and what I think I need to work on is some of my downwind style in the medium breeze.

Do you travel for sailing?
I haven’t traveled internationally yet; I would love to. I’ve traveled all across the country. The most recent regatta I went to was in Miami — that was the biggest international regatta that I’ve sailed in.

What is your favorite part about sailing?
My favorite part about sailing is that it’s completely different every time you’re on the water, and it requires so much, both physical strength and mental strength, to remain focused and to incorporate all the aspects of what the wind and the weather are doing around you.

Do you have dreams of sailing in the Olympics?
It’s definitely far in the future for me, because the sailors going to the Olympics right now have already graduated from college, but I definitely think it is an aspiration to keep in the back of my mind and to continually strive for, at least to have a campaign for the Olympics someday.
