Mustangs open season 2-0

The Lakewood Ranch High baseball team opened its season with a pair of wins over Palmetto and Dixie Hollins Feb. 15 and 18.

On Feb. 15. The Mustangs defeated Palmetto 10-0. Seth McGarry pitched six solid innings for the Lakewood, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out 11. McGarry also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.

Phil Dilandro and Brandon King both went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, and Connor Lewellen added a double.

On Feb. 18, Lakewood defeated Dixie Hollins 8-3. Dilandro pitched 5 2/3 innings for the Mustangs, allowing two runs while striking out four. Brett Hanewich pitched the remainder of the game to preserve the win for Lakewood.

McGarry went 3-for-4 with a homerun and two doubles to lead the way for the Mustangs at the plate. Andrew McNett added a homerun and Kyle Benson hit a double.
