Cops Corner 02.24.11

The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

LAKEWOOD RANCH
Feb. 18
 9:15 a.m. — 1800 block of Lakewood Ranch Blvd. Simple battery. The deputy responded in reference to a fight. The victim stated she had a problem with a car following her too closely, so she slammed on her brakes. The vehicle, possibly a dark blue Chevrolet Trail Blazer, followed the victim to her place of employment. She stated she had words with a black female, and then the suspect began punching her. The victim stated while she was on the ground fighting with the suspect, she believes a black male, who was also in the vehicle, punched her in the side of the head. The victim stated she didn’t see the black male punch her, but he was standing there. The deputy observed a cut and some swelling over the victim’s nose on the forehead area. He also observed an abrasion on her left forearm, a cut on her right elbow and a bruise on her right upper arm. The victim didn’t know who the two suspects were. The victim was asked several times if she wanted EMS, but she declined. The deputy photographed the injuries.

OTHER
Feb. 16
 11 a.m. — 3000 block of State Road 70 E. Information. After a traffic infraction in which the complainant was cut off, occupants of the complainant’s vehicle allegedly cursed and made an obscene gesture at the suspect. Because of the behavior of the occupants, the suspect took out his pistol, which was covered with a sock, and tapped it on his center console, facing toward the floorboard. The suspect never pointed it at the complainant or his occupants. The complainant approached the responding deputy in traffic and told him about the incident. The suspect was stopped and interviewed. The gun was run through NCIC/FCIC, and it was clear. The suspect also has a CCW from Indiana. Everyone was satisfied with the outcome and educated on dealing with road rage incidents.

Feb. 17
 4:50 p.m. — 2911 53rd Ave. E. (Walmart). Shoplifting. The defendant took the property and placed it into her purse. She then exited the store without paying for it. The defendant was stopped and escorted to the loss prevention office. The responding deputy arrived and arrested her without incident. The total value of the stolen property is $12.51.

4:55 p.m. — 5299 33rd St. E. (McDonald’s). Possession of a controlled substance. The responding deputy conducted a traffic stop on a reckless driver call. The complainant completed an affidavit and was able to ID the vehicle that almost hit her as the same vehicle the deputy had stopped. While the deputy was speaking to the defendant, he handed the deputy a prescription bottle that contained three different pills. The deputy got consent to search the vehicle and found a crack pipe.

Feb. 19
 1:45 a.m. — 100 block of Alpine Circle. Burglary to an occupied conveyance unarmed. Unknown person(s) entered the victim’s unlocked residence while she was sleeping and took her car keys and $11 from just inside the door. The vehicle was left unlocked as well.

Reported Feb. 19
 6:33 p.m. — 8100 block of Indigo Ridge Terrace. Suspicious circumstance. The complainant observed a tear in the northeast back screen door to her patio. She stated the last time she remembers looking at her screen was in January. The responding deputy observed a tear but didn’t see any obvious cut marks and couldn’t determine if it was cut or torn because of wear. There were no other signs of any type of forced entry on the residence and neighbors haven’t observed anything out of the ordinary. The complainant wanted this reported for information purposes so it was on file.
