CLASSROOM SPOTLIGHT: McNeal hits big numbers

McNeal Elementary School children have spent the last 28 completing brandishing pencil and paper as they completed a total of 100,000 math problems. Students enjoyed a special school-wide celebration this morning.

The East County Observer caught up with some of McNeal’s young math stars to find out what they enjoy most about math.

What do you like about math?
“I like math because I can learn stuff.”

What’s your favorite number?
“My favorite number is seven because I’m almost 7.”


Ty Fraser, 5
What’s your favorite type of math?
“I like pluses.”

What’s your favorite number?
“My favorite number is 10 because it has a lot of numbers.”


Erin Galvin, 5
How high can you add?
“I can add to 15.”


Maddie Hotaling, 5
What do you most like about math?
“I like that there are so many numbers.”

How high can you count?
“I can count to 100 and further, I think.”
