The FC Sarasota U17 boys soccer team added another championship title to their growing list of accolades, capturing the 33rd Sun Bowl Soccer Tournament Dec. 27-30.

The team competed in the U17 Gold Division where they beat NASA ’12 Premier (GA) and the Hernando Heat (FL) while tying Brentwood 94 Boys Premier (TN) in pool play. FC Sarasota went on to defeat Mockingbird Premier (KY) 2-0 in the semifinals before once again facing NASA ’12 Premier in the championship game where FC Sarasota won 1-0 on penalty kicks. Spencer Moeller was named MVP of the U17 Gold Division bracket.

“We have had players step-up to fill some voids and not miss a beat,” coach Roy Hill said.  “It is a testament to sound training behavior and a keen sense of team objectives over individualism that often creeps into the equation of soccer teams.  For the Sun Bowl tournament, we were fortunate to have a few younger players from the FCS U16 team guest on the team to help round out our roster and they played superbly for us.”

The team will now finish league play and compete in another tournament in preparation for the Florida State Cup.
