Mustangs win Smoothie King Classic

The Lakewood Ranch High boys basketball team defeated Gulf High, Braden River and Pinellas Park to win the Smoothie King Classic Dec. 28-30 at Bradenton Christian.

The Mustangs defeated Gulf High 66-55 in the first game. Brian Cobb scored 22 points and Brett Hanewich added 10 points.

In the second game, Lakewood defeated Braden River 62-45. Brian Cobb had 16 points and 12 rebounds. Jordan Baker had 14 points and Tim Greenamoyer added 13 points. Trevon Young led the way for Braden River with 13 points and Tre Bryant finished with eight points.

In the championship game, the Mustangs defeated Pinellas Park 74-52. Brian Cobb led the way with 22 points. Tim Greenamoyer scored 20 points followed by Brett Hanewich with 13 points and Jordan Baker with seven points.

Brian Cobb was named the Smoothie King Classic MVP and Jordan Baker was named to the All-Tournament Team. The Mustangs are now 9-4 on the season and 2-0 in the district. Lakewood returns to action at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Braden River.
