The number “11” will certainly be Dane Russell Edwards’ lucky number. Dr. Wayne Cohen delivered Dane at 11:11 p.m. Jan. 11 (1/11/11) in room 11 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Edwards weighed 6 pounds, 1 ounce and was 19 inches long. The first-time parents are Shanell Edwards, 26, and Derek Edwards, 31 of Sarasota.

The “lucky” birth become a running joke throughout the day yesterday once Shanell Edwards’s water broke a week early and she found herself in room 11 in the delivery wing at the hospital.

"We kind of joked about it … our nurse Charlie she was kidding with us because my husband had been saying that all along 'oh yeah it's gonna happen' and she's like, 'you guys only have a minute so if you're wanting to do this', ya know type of thing and I gave one last push... he wanted to be born at that time I guess!"

Shanell Edwards has always had a soft spot for the time 11:11.

“I just remember as a little girl, I was always looking at the clock and it being 1-1-1-1 and making a wish because it was a magical number, so I feel like he is really blessed and a magical little baby.”

When asked if they believe their baby will be the luckiest baby of the year, Shanell Edwards said, “We’re the lucky ones to have him.”

“Absolutely!” Derek Edwards exclaimed.

The couple raved not only about their new baby but also about their experience at the hospital.

“You couldn’t ask for a better experience,” the Edwardses said.

The family will be headed home from the hospital tomorrow.
