Mustangs finish second at county championships

The Lakewood Ranch High varsity wrestling team finished second at the Manatee County Championships Jan. 26 at Southeast High.

The Mustangs finished 4-1 behind champion Manatee, which is ranked 11^th in the state in Class 3A. Lakewood defeated Bayshore 72-6, Southeast 78-6, Palmetto 51-15 and Braden River 65-21 before falling to Manatee 42-32.

Blake Riley-Hawkins (119 pounds), Ryan Leverenz (125) and Kyle Riley-Hawkins (189) all won individual county championships.

The Mustangs finished the regular season with a 34-6 dual meet record. Lakewood will return to action in the Class 2A-District 11 Championship Feb. 5 at Palmetto.
