June 27
Sinking ship
10:14 a.m. — 700 block of Old Compass Road.
Abandoned Boat. A man reported a sinking boat was lodged under a dock. The owner of the boat promised to remove the leaky vessel.

Roped in
11:24 a.m. — Overlook Park.
Larceny. A town employee told police that someone stole a 200-foot rope from the poles lining Overlook Park.

Dog duty
6:34 p.m. — 5600 block of GMD.
Code Enforcement. Police couldn’t find a dog that was reported on the beach, but several witnesses said it was a service dog.

Boom town
6:55 p.m. — 600 block of Gulf Bay Road.
Fireworks. A man told police he heard fireworks in the area. Police found no signs of illegal firework activity.

Under watch
9:06 p.m. — Avenue of the Flowers.
Security Check. Police found the front door to a vacant restaurant space unlocked and kept watch on the location, because the door couldn’t be secured.

Secured storage space
10:51 p.m. — 200 block of GMD.
Security Check. Police found a storage room open near a restaurant and secured it.

Vacant store secured
8:06 p.m. — 4000 block of GMD.
Security Check. Police found the front door open of a vacant convenience store and secured it.

June 28
Fisherman receives several warnings
1:52 a.m. — 100 block of GMD.
Code Enforcement. Police noticed a car parked on the east side of Gulf of Mexico Drive at the base of the New Pass Bride and located its owner fishing in Overlook Park. The fisherman left the area after being warned he was in the park after hours, that his car was illegally parked and that he couldn’t drink alcohol in the park.

Seashell slip-up
1:57 a.m. — 3100 block of GMD.
Suspicious Person. A Longboat Key couple was warned not to walk the beach after hours and to shut off the flashlights they were using to find seashells, because they were violating the town’s sea-turtle nesting season ordinance.

Goggle ogle
3:08 p.m. — 5200 block of GMD. Suspicious Person. A woman reported that a suspicious looking man approached a nearby condominium unit door and took a pair of goggles that was near the door. The woman confronted the man about his actions, and he returned the goggles and fled the area.

Sales pitch goes out the door
5:56 p.m. — 600 block of Longboat Court.
Soliciting. A woman was told she couldn’t go door to door on Longboat Key selling things. She was issued a written warning for the violation and left the area.

Working ahead
6:57 p.m. — 700 block of Linley Street.
Suspicious Circumstance. A man reported people inside the garage of his neighbor’s home, even though the neighbor was away for the summer. Landscapers performing work at the home were discovered working on a vehicle in the garage. Both men live on the Key and had permission to use the garage.

Plaza unit secured
11:40 p.m. — 6800 block of GMD.
Security Check. The door to a vacant plaza unit was secured.

June 30
Door-to-door
1:08 a.m. — St. Armands Circle.
Assist Other Agency. Longboat Key police were standing by as a Sarasota Police Department officer was performing a traffic stop. A vehicle then drove by and clipped the driver’s-side door of the Sarasota police car. Longboat police pulled over the offender, who admitted to having a couple of beers. The Longboat officer turned the case over to Sarasota police.

Prized possession
9:40 p.m. 3000 block of Harbourside Drive.
Suspicious Vehicle. Subject reported new black convertible Mustang had been noticed by employees. Vehicle had no license plates. Officer advised car was offered as prize at local golf tournament on weekend of June 21.
