That’s pocket change
1:29 p.m. — 3400 block of South Osprey Avenue. Theft. A gas-station manager discovered one of his employees was stealing money from the cash register. When a customer paid for an item, the woman would ring up the transaction like normal but then would go back, void it and pocket the cash. Normally, cashiers will void a few purchases, when customers change their minds about buying a product. This employee voided about 200 transactions during 15 days last month. Those transactions involved more than $2,000.

Uncharitable cause
2 p.m. — 40 block of South Palm Avenue. Theft. The executive director of an animal-protection group believes the organization’s bookkeeper has been embezzling money. A recent audit revealed the bookkeeper falsified information to cover up the theft. The bookkeeper recently became aware of the audit and left the office for lunch and never returned.

The dating game
5 p.m. — 1300 Harbor Drive. Suspicious Person. A senior citizen had been dating a man for about a month, when she broke it off with him in April. He called and emailed her for another month and tried to get back together. The man finally stopped contacting her last month. The woman went on a date with another man on the above date, and when she returned home, the former boyfriend was there. She called police, because she didn’t want him stalking her again. Officers told her to seek an injunction against the man.

Backhanded compliment
12:02 a.m. — Main Street and Palm Avenue. Fight. Two acquaintances were having drinks at a restaurant bar. At some point in the evening, a third person told one of the men that he had an attractive girlfriend. That man’s friend then added that she was much too attractive for him. The two friends began to argue, and the one who gave the backhanded compliment ended up with a torn shirt and a head butt to the face. He wants to press charges against his insulted friend.

Brush it aside
8:30 a.m. — 3000 block of Divided Creek Drive. Suspicious Person. A neighbor spotted someone milling around inside a vacant home and suspected malfeasance. Police were summoned, but when they walked inside, they realized the man in the home was a painter hired to spruce up the place.

Not this man’s best friend
8:45 p.m. — 2700 block of Arlington Street. Trespassing. Two women were inside their home, when they saw a man hop their fence and walk into the backyard. They walked outside to see what he was doing. He approached the women’s dog and told them that it was his dog. They told him it wasn’t, and he began to argue with them. During the argument, he started to run up to one of the women, and the other one told him that she was calling police. He turned and ran the other way. The women said they believed the man could be a neighbor of theirs, but they’re not sure.

If the glove fits
9:30 a.m. — 2800 Fruitville Road. Burglary. A gas-station owner reported that someone broke into his business overnight and stole $12 from a desk and a case of beer from a walk-in refrigerator. A pair of gloves was left behind. Police found a fingerprint on the refrigerator door handle.
