Cops Corner

The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

GATES CREEK
July 10
 10:30 a.m. — 700 block of Gates Creek Road. Burglary to a dwelling. The complainant reported she returned home from church and found her residence had been burglarized. A screen was disturbed on a bedroom window on the back of the residence, and the window was unlocked. Several items were taken from downstairs and more property was taken from the upstairs bedrooms. One set of fingerprints was collected from the outside window. The same residence also was burglarized a few weeks ago.

MYAKKA CITY
Reported July 10
 4:15 p.m. — 36700 block of Singletary Road. Burglary to a structure. The victim has five acres of property on the Myakka River, which he only uses for recreation. On the property, he has a utility trailer, storage shed and a camper. The last time he was on the property was May 14, and he had locked the shed, trailer and camper, as well as the front gate on Singletary Road. On July 10, he noticed the front gate was still locked; however, the locks were missing on the trailer and shed, and several items were missing. The victim suggested someone could have accessed his property from the river. One set of fingerprints was lifted from a golf cart located inside the shed.

WILLOWBROOK CONDOMINIUMS
July 9
 5:54 a.m. — 8900 block of White Sage Loop. Verified alarm. The responding deputy arrived in response to an alarm call that was called in. Upon arrival, the deputy checked the outside perimeter to the residence and found the rear door to the garage unlocked but not wide open. The deputy contacted the homeowner and advised her of his findings and his reason for being at her residence. She stated she knew the door was unlocked, but she didn’t receive any calls from her alarm company.

OTHER
Reported July 9
 1 p.m. — 2900 block of 54th Drive E. Grand theft. The victim reported an unknown person stole his wallet, containing $400 and other items, while he was sleeping at a friend’s house.

July 11
 12:01 a.m. — 13400 block of Upper Manatee River Road. Criminal mischief. The victim reported an unknown person broke the window on his vehicle while it was parked in the driveway. The victim stated nothing was taken from the vehicle, and he thinks someone from the school where he teaches may have done it. He didn’t see it happen nor does he have any video surveillance at his home.

3 a.m. — 7305 S.R. 70 E. (BP Gas Station). Petit retail theft. The complainant reported an unknown suspect came into the gas station and headed directly to the beer display. He picked up a 24-pack of beer and ran out the door without paying for the beer. The complainant observed the suspect get into the suspect vehicle, which drove toward the Creekwood subdivision. The complainant stated the incident might have been caught on camera. If so, he will bring the video evidence to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. The complainant was given a case number.
