The East Manatee River Dawgs 10U travel baseball team finished with a 5-2 record in the 10U Big Kahuna Tournament July 18-22 at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The River Dawgs were one of 15 teams from across the country to participate in the tournament.
The team earned a spot in the Champions Bracket after finishing 5-1 in pool play and a No. 4 overall ranking.
In pool play, the River Dawgs outscored their opponents 57-22, defeating teams from Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and Florida. The team’s lone loss — a 10-6 decision — came against New York’s Oceanside Bulldogs.
In the Champions Bracket, the River Dawgs fell to the Oviedo Blackhawks 12-9 in single elimination.
Rob Arakel went 12-for-22 with two doubles, a triple and six RBIs to lead the way for the River Dawgs at the plate. Hunter Bogumil went 9-for-22 with an in-the-park grand slam and Tyler Reed went 7-for-23 with an in-the-park grand slam. Reed and Harrison Thiel, who went 6-for-14, led the team in RBIs with seven apiece.
