Riverview High School’s class of 1991 celebrated its 20-year reunion Saturday, July 23, at Michael’s On East. There were approximately 100 people in attendance, and people came from all over the U.S., including California, North Carolina, Washington, D.C., and, of course, Sarasota. The four women who were in charge of the event were Kathryn Dougherty, Allison Foster, Jamie Lotz and Lily Volpert. The women had been working on the event since last fall and managed to keep costs down by doing a lot of the work themselves and by recruiting good friends who were still in the area.

Each of the girls had her own claim to fame while in high school. Dougherty was involved in track, volleyball and swimming; Foster was the Student Council president and voted “Most likely to succeed”; Lotz was the prom queen; and Volpert was a Highland dancer.

During cocktail hour, memories were recalled and photos were shared before sitting down to dinner, which was followed by an evening of dancing to some of their favorite tunes from the glory days.

As with every high school, there are always the people everyone remembers: the jock, the cheerleader, the top student, etc. Those high school labels may have faded once they left high school, but a high school reunion is one way to get people to reminisce. Here are what some of the ’91 Riverview graduates had to say about their time in high school.
