Parents Rob and Shari Elliott stood in amazement before Gullett Elementary School’s third-grade class May 27.

Upon their arrival, students presented them with homemade check — signed by students — for $628.46. The monies will go toward the 3-day Cancer Walk Rob Elliott completes in October on behalf of his wife, who is battling breast cancer for the third time.

“We are so proud of you,” Rob Elliott told students. “You put me over the top of my fundraising goal. It’s awesome you took on this task.”

Initially, children in Denise Touchberry’s class, which includes the Elliott’s son, Jordan, began selling popsicles for the cause, but the whole third grade class quickly became involved with the project.

Parent volunteer/organizer Jan Timney said children brought in allowance money and sold crafts they made for the cause. Teachers and parents pitched in by buying popsicles for entire classrooms.
