Lakewood Ranch High scored 610.5 points to finish second overall in Class 4A in the FHSAA Floyd E. Lay Sunshine Cup all-sports awards.

The Mustangs finished behind Naples Barron Collier (644). The announcement comes shortly after Lakewood finished first in the state in the FHSAA academic awards.

Southeast was the only other Manatee County school to finish in the Top 10, finishing in a tie for 10th place in Class 3A (159). Riverview led the way in Sarasota County, finishing sixth in Class 6A with 614.5 points.

“That was not quite our goal obviously, but a week or two after finishing first in the state in the FHSAA academic award, I think it is really impressive,” Lakewood athletic director Shawn Trent said. “ My goal as athletic director has always been to prove that you can have both. You can mix great athletics and great academics together, and I think that is what we have started here at Lakewood Ranch.”
