Braden River High 2010 graduate Austin Platt was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 26th round of the 50-round Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft June 7.

The former Pirates pitcher, who also played at Bayshore and Manatee, played sparingly his senior year at Braden River before playing for IMG Academy’s wooden-bat league that summer. Platt went on to Florida State College-Jacksonville before leaving college and focusing on gaining the attention of Major League scouts.

After receiving a $20,000 signing bonus and $40,000 in college education funds, Platt signed with the Diamondbacks June 9 and left for the Diamondbacks’ entry in the rookie Arizona League.
